The Trial

November 3, 2025:

I woke up early and caught the earliest Amtrak from Saint Louis to Chicago. I told myself it was just a day trip, a much needed respite from rural life outside of Saint Louis, but in my heart, it was a dream to get away and live in a place where people might actually want to do more than watch television all day long. 

This wasn't the first time I packed up my things and travelled to see if I might start a new life. One might think I've been down this road a few times too many. Nevertheless, here I was on a train hoping I might find a place to either rebuild my life after a lengthy illness, or find a comfortable place to spend the time I have left.
